J.D. Wagner Custom Signature Series, 6’9” 2p 2t for Dt3/WF4 line. Winston-color cane, agate stripper with bronze Snake Brand guides and tip tops wrapped in translucent orange silks tipped claret and hook keeper and tip tops, C/P chocolate brown wraps at ferrules, size 12 step down ferrules, custom in shop-produced Duronze D/L cap and ring seat with curly Eucalyptus spacer impressed with J.D. Wagner logo, custom shop made Duronze winding check w/strap and ring hook keeper, swelled butt, mirror matched tips, 3x3 node spacing.
Custom made for a local customer who has been a friend of ours going back to our company’s inception and very sparingly and gently fished, rod is in near Mint condition, straight and tight, and is essentially a blend between our Signature and Classic Series rods. Even the case has been protected since delivery with a heavy canvas custom made cover. This rod has a very pleasant progressive and delicate action, perfect for small stream fishing and providing a fantastic feel catching small to medium sized fish. The spacer is spectacularly figured and is one of the nicest pieces of wood I’ve ever had the pleasure to turn, simply stunning. Having recently retired from producing rods to focus on reel making this is as fine and well-cared for example of our workmanship at its best. $2,150.

Light caramel flamed cane w/3x3 node spacing, mirror matched tips, black snakes and wrapped in CP olive thread tipped black, light amber agate stripper, 6” cigar grip, oxidized D/L NS cap and ring seat w/ gorgeously figured curly maple wood spacer, oxidized NS step down ferrules, size 12. Good overall condition, slight grip soiling, varnish good, slight bluing loss on edge of butt cap, ferrules snug and smooth. There is a clear overwrap between tip guides 2 and 3 on one tip w/ a slight set in this tip. Original labeled tube and bag. $1,095
Heddon Model #20 Bill Stanley Favorite, 9’ 3p 2t, 2 1/2F for HCH(DT 7) line. Heddon color cane, production mismatched nodes, red agate stripper and Perfection steel guides wrapped C/P maroon tipped yellow, oxidized ferrules, 6 ½” Powel style grip terminating in a D/L screw lock with marbled Bakelite spacer. All sections full length.
A nice rod but showing its age. Varnish is good and not alligatored, wraps intact and not dry, one tip with a slight set, other straight; tip ferrules worn and slightly click in female, could use some beeswax or a tighten of the female, some bluing loss on ferrules and seat, seat has a replacement end cap and spacer is cracked(see close up) but is functional. Replacement bag and tube. $175
Old Faithful Rod Company, True Action Fly Rod No. T-0095 :9’, 3p, 2t for 5/6 line. Deep caramel varnished cane, drawn NS step down ferrules w/witness marks, tungsten steel snakes and Mildrum stripper wrapped with tan C/P thread, 6 ¾” Western grip terminating in a D/L screw lock with a red/brown anodized morticed aluminum spacer.
This rod appears to be built on Granger/W&M ferruled blanks, varnish excellent for age, straight and tight, very lightly fished, if at all. A small amount of tarnish on female ferrule of mid, otherwise excellent. Fine tips(.064) and 18/12 ferrules, has a crisp dry fly action perfect for big water. Original bag and fiber tube(bent) with an additional aluminum tube for safe transport and to keep the original tube intact. $425 REDUCED $325
L.J. Downes Rod Company Model 8013-H 8’, 2p, 2t for 5 line. Medium fast. Lightly flamed cane ala Jim Payne w/3x3 node spacing, pressed nodes, mirror matched tips, gently swelled butt, black snakes and wrapped in CP burgundy thread tipped black, red agate stripper, 6” Powel grip, oxidized D/L NS cap and ring seat w/stabilized walnut burl wood spacer, oxidized NS Super Z ferrules. Very Good OAC, a medium fast, easy casting rod with some backbone, a great all-around DF rod based on the Dickerson 8013. Tight and straight, with a powerful action, one tip has a minute(1/8”) scratch as shown in last picture, some slight grip soiling and slight bluing loss to C/R. Case shows slight wear and caps could use a polish. $1,300
J.D. Wagner Signature Series Custom Model 380-ZW: 8’ 3p. 2t. 4 wt., serial number 207-4 Crisp/fast DF action. Custom-made to a customer’s specifications, this rod was very rarely and gently used. One tip with a slight set, slight grip soiling, but otherwise Exc+ condition, polish the NS seat and it would be NM. Original labeled bag and tube. Tube shows some wear and caps could use a polish, old paper label shows wear, can be replaced gratis. $2,195 E3
J.D. Wagner Signature Series Model 276 I: 7’6” 3p. 2t. 5 wt., serial number 405-11 Fast action. Richly flamed cane, 3x3 node spacing, mirror matched tips, standard translucent wraps with fine black tipping, black wraps at ferrules, sterling silver rope braid hook keeper, 6” full cigar grip, T&T/Heddon-style swelled butt, N.S. U/L screw lock seat w/varnished green ebony spacer, chrome guides with red agate stripper, oxidized hardware.
Varnish in great condition save a couple minute(`1/16”) dings in the reel seat spacer, some grip soiling, appears to have been fished very sparingly, straight and tight. This model without the welled butt has a nice, easy medium action that was customized by the customer with a dramatic swelled butt which speeds up the action and provides plenty of backbone and lift on larger fish. Equally at home with dry flies to nymphs and small streamers. Tube shows some wear and caps could use a polish, old paper label shows wear, can be replaced gratis. Excellent OAC, polish the NS seat and female ferrule and it would be NM. $ 1,895 E5
H.L. Leonard 7’ 2p 2t for 3/4 line. Leonard blond cane, 3x3 node spacing, honey color wraps over tungsten steel guides and Mildrum stripper, strap and ring hook keeper, 4 ½” cigar grip terminating in a D/L NS cap and ring, cap impressed ‘The H.L. Leonard Rod Company, Makers’(postfire), mortised butternut spacer, size 11 step down ferrules w/witness marks.
Refinished but in VG condition, some small scuffs to varnish, cork soiling and ridging, ferrules snug, tips straight, butt down 1” and ferrule reset, one male ferrule missing moisture plug, delightful action. Replacement tube and bag. $1,100
Highland Mills Rod Company 8’ 2p 2t for 5 line. Fast. : Caramel color cane, spiral node scheme, red wraps tipped black over hard chrome snakes, super Z style NS ferrules, 6” Western grip terminating in an U/L screw lock w/walnut spacer. Jim really put the ‘Garrison’ into this rod, with the translucent guide wraps and chocolate silks at the ferrules and tip tops and also the very neatly wrapped nose of the grip and the use of a pocket butt cap and walnut/cork spacer combo. The Garrison 209 is a favorite of many and will throw a DT5 or DT6, or for those that prefer WF lines, will throw a WF6 a country mile. A great all-around rod with an easy-to-cast progressive action and tips heavy enough to throw larger flies if desired. A classic! New, $1,595.

This rod has a medium fast, delicate, unified action via the size 11 ferrules, but also has some backbone, not a noodle by any means, and would be most at home on small to medium-sized water. A classic and rare taper from the Payne catalogue! New, $1,595.
L.J. Downes Rod Company ‘Sloan’s Parabolic’ 7’10”, 2p, 2t for DT5/WF6 line. Flamed cane in a light caramel ala Jim Payne w/3x3 node spacing, mirror matched tips, swelled butt, black snakes and oxidized hardware wrapped in translucent orange thread, agate stripper, 6” cigar grip, oxidized D/L NS cap and ring seat w/figured walnut spacer. The swelled butt gives a lucky owner the best of all worlds: a powerhouse parabolic in nature with a s. 14 ferrule, but with a swelled butt doesn’t suffer as some pure parabolics by a lack of ‘lift’ when getting large fish near at hand. Edwards 'Bristol' Bristol Built f1318-8 1/2' 3p 2t for 7/8 6.0 0z.: D/L screw lock over threaded bakelight spacer w/hooded NS band and end cap, 6 1/2" Western grip, bakelight winding check, NS strap and ring keeper, model signed in white ink w/"Bristol Built' decal. Maroon CP wraps tipped gold at all ferrules, guides and tip tops, all sections appear to have been revarnished save the butt section, butt ferrule needs to be reset, one tip down 3/8", grip soiling, otherwise VG with a powerful action. $350 bag and tube.

Bradley, Richard 3” in diameter by .660 spool width, 6.9 oz. with line and backing, set up for LHW but can be reversed to RHW, soft click. Gold and black color anodized aluminum, with original box and pouch. These reels created quite a sensation when they were first released, we were so impressed we were dealers for Richard for a time. Hardy Sovereign 5/6/7. 3” diameter, spool width .866”, 5.9 Oz with line and backing, LHW but reversible. Anodized aluminum, smooth foot, ventilated backplate, duplicated non-adjustable click and pawl, nickel silver roller pillar, set up for LHW but reversible. No edge rash on reel, a small amount of marring to the foot from mounting on rod, otherwise mint. Very rare and desireable. $650 REDUCED! $455
J. Austin Forbes Avon: 3” in diameter, .665 spool width, 3.4 oz for ¾.5 line. Anodized aluminum, adjustable and reversible click and pawl drag. Dusty and could use a cleaning but no edge or foot rash or any sign of it being used/mounted on a rod. Nice lightweight reel! $345 Box and paperwork.

A Special Group of Hardy Perfect Widespool Reels:
When Hardy reintroduced the Widespool Perfect, the first small batch of reels had a novel and gorgeous ‘Gunmetal’ blue anodizing. All subsequent reel batches reverted to the typical traditional grey anodizing, making these(save one) quite novel and I think the most beautiful reels Hardy has produced. The used reels were the property of rodmaker Jim Downes and used at shows to mate with his rods, but have never seen water.
Hardy Widespool Perfect Blue Finish 2 7/8” diameter for 3/4 lines, .785 wide, 5.3 oz, RHW, but easily reversible.

Orvis Hydros SL III 3.850 diameter, .930 spool width, 7.4 oz. with line and backing. Aluminum construction, large arbor design, ultra smooth and strong drag for lines 5/6/7. With a new line and backing, never used, with original box, paperwork, wrench and pouch. $195 REDUCED $145!!!!!
Orvis Battenkill V: 3 13/16”, 9.2 oz with a WF6 line and backing. LHW. Some edge rash to the frame, very smooth drag and quiet click. Made in England with an Orvis labeled pouch. $250
Islander No. 3: 3 7/8”, 15.4 oz with WF12 line and backing, LHW, but reversible, massive cork disc drag, gold color anodizing, smooth as silk. Used, but pristine with original pouch. $425
Pflueger Medalist #1498: 4” overall diameter, 10.8 oz. w/line and backing, RHW, adjustable drag, diamolite line guard, holds a WF10 line and 200 yards of backing. Some edge and face rash and faint scratches and minor corrosion on foot, but overall good. Would make a great salmon/grilse/bass/steelhead reel. Could use a good clean and lube to bring it its smoothest running condition. $49

Unmarked Leonard Mills/Julius Vom Hofe(?) Raised Pillar Fly Reel 2.710” OD, 1” wide. Aluminum frame and spoolsides with nickel silver screws, foot, and crank. Ebonite side plates and crank knob, half-handle crank, aluminum bearing cap.
A super smooth reel with virtually no spool wobble or side play, the crank knob could use a little lubrication to turn more freely. Minor corrosion to the frame but no cracks or deep scratches in the rubber…could polish up to be a stunner. The click sounds the same forward and reverse so could be set up to wind either way. Foot appears to have been slightly bent at one end and gently peened back into place as it sits flat and fine. Will hold up to a DT5 line and backing and would be a perfect aesthetic fit for a cane rod. The workmanship and tolerances held in the making of this reel amazed me. $625 SOLD!

Mint, unused. Took this out for some ‘lawn fishing’ with my Hardy LRH and a DT4 line. Plenty of reserve power due to the swelled butt, while still possessing a delicate character. Made to commemorate Orvis 99th anniversary. Near mint, cork slightly ridged but immaculately clean, bluing 100%, size 16 Super Z- ferrules. The only sign of this rod even being cast is a small amount of scuffing to the reel seat barrel and a very minute scratch on one flat between the stripper and first guide, straight and tight. Original bag and paper labeled tube, some areas of label not legible.
I took this rod out with a Rio WF7 line and it performed best once the entire belly was extended beyond the tip. It would pick up the entire head and with a small haul shoot an incredible amount of line effortlessly. A cannon of a rod that would be great for large trout/bass/pike/steelhead/grilse/carp. Pair it with the Pflueger 1498 reel listed below and have a fantastic, durable and care-free outfit for not a lot of $. $449 SOLD!

A Superlative, One-Of -A -Kind Marked Prototype Brown Trout Reel Set by Ted Godfrey:
This is a one-of-a-kind prototype set of reels for a limited-edition series that Ted Godfrey produced for Jonas Price, proprietor of The Feathered Hook. In 2014, Jonas and Ted huddled to put together a special reel set for 4, 5 and 6 wt lines that would balance cane optimally. After developing this prototype set, six sets were produced, all presold to clients of Mr. Price. These prototype reels have never been fished and are mint, unused, and come with their original embossed Arne Mason fleece-lined block leather cases and paperwork. They are:

In fair OAC, this rod has seen plenty of fishing, which warms my heart, nothing sadder than a ‘mint, unused’ cane rod. Varnish in great condition but could use a cleaning and polish, N.S. seat could use a polish, mid and both tips have sets, one tip male ferrule fits quite loosely and some bluing loss to ferrules and agate stripper frame. This model has a nice, easy medium action that bends into the butt reminiscent of a Paul Young Martha Marie, equally at home with dry flies to nymphs and small streamers. Tube shows some wear and caps could use a polish, old paper label shows wear, can be replaced gratis. $1,295 SOLD!

Grip soiling, butt cap has always been covered with a rubber hood to prevent scratching but there is some minor tarnish that can be polished out, some unidentified residue on reel seat spacer. A wonderful rod in as-new condition with a crisp DF demeaner. Appears new with only some slight grip soiling. Straight and snug ferrule fit. Medium color tempered cane w/quasi spiral node spacing, brown C/P wraps over heavy gage reverse twist guides and Mildrum stripper, typical Thomas Signature wrap at swelled butt in 3/7/3/1 pattern, triple tipped at ferrules, NS hook keeper soldered to NS winding check, 6” modified Wells grip terminating in an aluminum and NS D/L screw lock seat with no-jam ‘garden hose’ threads with varnished cedar spacer, cap impressed ‘F.E. Thomas Special, Bangor, Maine EF64’, size 18/12 step down NS ferrules with witness marks.
Uncasing and assembling this rod to give it a wiggle, I couldn’t wait to cast it. I took it out with a WF7 line and was easily able to pick up the entire head plus more running line, make one gentle back cast and a short haul on the forward and effortlessly shoot an unbelievable amount of line. Paired with a hefty reel this rod would be a joy to fish all day, belying its length. Ferrules fit silky smooth and snug, original varnish excellent, some slight cork ridging, straight and sparingly fished, in very good overall condition. A great rod for any large water and could be used for trout, bass, steelhead, grilse, pike, carp, etc. Original bag and labeled case, label showing extensive wear. $1,245 SOLD!
